Your Smith (fka Caroline Smith)
Your Smith (fka Caroline Smith)
Minneapolis native Your Smith (aka Caroline Smith), relocated to Los Angeles after signing to Pulse Recording (DRAM, Miike Snow, Gallant, et. al). Inspired by the history of Laurel Canyon and moving through a city that’s been immortalized in music throughout the ages, Smith concocted her own sound, bringing together the funk / R&B “Minneapolis Sound” of her roots and the classic songwriting of the LA folk heroes. Your Smith is currently wrapping up her debut EP, produced by Tommy English (BØRNS), Stint (Gallant, Aluna George, NAO), and Nicky Davey (Internet, Syd The Kid), arriving on Neon Gold Records (HAIM, Christine & The Queens, et. al) this spring. She also recently appeared as a featured artist on alt rapper Rejjie Snow’s debut.
BAUM
If you’ve ever pictured an urban kid who has grown up too fast, and found roots in the beauty of pain, this is the face behind Baum’s dark pop world. 20-year-old college student, Sabrina Teitelbaum, is living in Los Angeles, singing nostalgic, modern lullabies. Before finding artists such as Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, and Jill Scott, she was influenced by folk legends such as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young. Originally seeing herself as an indie songwriter, Sabrina came home every day from school and wrote on the piano or acoustic guitar. It was not until high school that she started playing live around downtown New York and discovering her own sound. Moving to LA when she was 18 lead Baum to playing live shows more often and opening for artists such as Holychild, Milo Greene, and Vista Kicks. She has credited her confidence on stage to artists such as Mick Jagger and David Bowie, whose presence and attitude she studied and tried to imitate as a young performer. Baum can be described as a songwriter at heart, living within layers of alternative pop and soul. Her lyrics are self aware and honest, smart but not for the purpose of being smart. Singing about love and recklessness, Baum sits at the intersection of wisdom and youth.
