Sims grew up in Minnesota, an active part of the busy and fiercely independent Minneapolis hip-‐hop scene. In high school, he made friends with the classmates that would eventually become his cohorts in Doomtree—the seven-‐member rap collective now responsible for some of this era’s most interesting, genre-‐defying releases. Over the past decade Sims has released a host of projects, both as a solo artist (Lights Out Paris, Bad Time Zoo, Wild Life EP, Field Notes) and as a member of Doomtree (No Kings, All Hands, and many others.) He’s toured the world from Pittsburgh to Prague, playing festivals like Glastonbury, Riot Fest, and SXSW. He’s earned and re-‐earned his reputation as a thoughtful artist with an unstoppable live show. (When he calls “both hands up-‐-‐now both feet up” rooms around the world have felt their floorboards flex as the entire crowd goes airborne.)
To create More Than Ever, Sims enlisted the unrelenting and adventurous production of Lazerbeak, Paper Tiger, and ICETEP. Sometimes take-‐no-‐prisoners, sometimes take-‐the-‐slow-‐road, the drums are crushing and the soundscapes are expansive. After many long days and nights sequestered in his South Minneapolis basement, Sims emerged with the most honest first-‐person account he’s ever recorded-‐-‐he wrestles with some demons, faces down his doubts, and allows us in on the dirty work of change and growth and revelation. But, true to form, he does it with swagger, wit, and bar-‐crushing style. Huge ideas, concisely delivered over epic bangers without ever feeling overwrought. On songs like “Brutal Dance” and “OneHundred” Sims crafts an earnest mission statement while the razor sharp wordplay, insight, and quick quips prevent him from ever taking himself too seriously. The result is a 45-‐minute rollercoaster through the highest highs, the lowest lows, and all of the love and hope between them.
Joining forces in 2011, Travellers Music was the end result of abstract artistic personalities being brought together in order to create a new distinctive sound. 4th Eye leads the live show from behind the decks, providing carefully placed cuts. Just Enough Food and Alltrueistic keep the crowd moving exchanging rapid-fire rhyme schemes and infectious, relevant lyrical content. All members incorporate the proper use of analog drum machine and synthesizer into the set, providing an interactive live element that is exhilarating and improvisational.
Travellers Music has performed alongside hip-hop legends Rakim and Grand Master Caz and shared the stage alongside many national acts including Grouch and Eligh, Amp Live, Toki Wright (Rhymesayers), Cage, The ReMINDERS, Illogic, Kristoff Krane, Psalm One, Sadistik, Carnage the Executioner, Sole & Louis Logic. Travellers music track "My Complex" was featured on the Rapfam Vol. 5 Mixtape in 2012, which included appearances from underground heavy-hitters Louis Logic and Sadistik. In addition, they went on the Short Circuit Tour with Toki Wright (Rhymesayers) Carnage the Executioner and Kristoff Krane. In 2013 Travellers Music qualified for the Westword Best of the West contest as Semi finalists. They also joined Denver local Rhyme Progression for the Summer Solstice midwest tour.
In 2014, Travellers Music released their debut album for a nearly sold out sold crowd at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado. Travellers Music self-titled debut album is independently distributed on I-tunes and Amazon Music. In addition, the album is currently streaming on Pandora and Spotify. In 2014 Travellers Music also teamed up with Blurred Pictures who filmed two extraordinary music videos for the album including “Story of a Junkie” and “My Complex”. In 2015 Travellers Music gained national recognition being selected by SpokesBUZZ to perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Travellers Music also went on two successful independent tours in 2015. A tour to SXSW in March was followed by a sold out headlining homecoming show in Denver. The collective also joined Whiskey Blanket on the Summer Sampler Tour, which ended with a performance alongside the God Emcee himself- Rakim. Travellers Music performed many other festivals in 2015 including FoCoMX7, Shredded Beats Music festival & The Munchie Cup.
Travellers Music is set to release Judgment Day, their sophomore crew album early 2018. Fans can expect an official vinyl release and new music videos to match. Travellers Music will also be returning to SXSW and touring extensively throughout the year. Judgment Day will be the 20th independent release from the collective.
