Free DIRECTV DVR Receiver Guide

Author: Brian Stevens

A DIRECTV DVR (digital video recorder) is a recording device that sits inside a DVR receiver. It utilizes DIRECTV's DVR Service (what used to be TiVo) to allow you to digitally record and store satellite TV programs. Here's a list of features and how you can get one for free.

DIRECTV DVR Receiver Features

A DVR receiver allows you to watch what you want, when you want. With it, you can record your favorite shows plus pause and replay live TV.

Here are some of DIRECTV's DVR features:

* One-touch recording - Record programs with a single touch of a button. No more trying to figure our complicated VCR settings. Your shows will be automatically recorded even if they move to a different time slot.

* Dual recording - Record your favorite programs while watching another program. You can even record two programs at the same time,

* Extended recording time - You can record up to 100 hours of programming and store those programs all within your DVR receiver.

* Fast forward - bypass commercials while watching live TV.

* Pause - allows you to pause a TV show so you can go to the bathroom or get a snack, then resume watching when you're ready.

* Digital storage - recorded programs are stored inside your DVR receiver so you don't have to hassle with video tapes.

* On-screen TV guide - allows you to schedule and record your programs up to 14 days in advance.

Free DIRECTV DVR and HD DVR Receivers

DIRECTV is currently running a free satellite TV system promotion. When you subscribe to their service they'll give you a free satellite TV system which includes a satellite dish and up to four receivers with universal remote controls. When you place your order you can request a free DVR receiver with your system.

DIRECTV also offers an HD (high definition) DVR with 250 hours of recording time for an additional fee. This HD DVR receiver allows you to record and watch satellite TV in high definition format.

DIRECTV programming starts at $29.99 per month for their Total Choice package (155 TV channels plus 50 XM satellite radio channels), and goes up to $96.99 per month for their Total Choice Premier package (250 channels, 67 XM radio channels, HBO, Showtime, and Starz).
