Is Central Florida Safe From Large Category Hurricanes?

Author: Lance Winslow

Some people who live in The Great State of Florida are already getting on edge. They lived through the worst Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season ever in 2005. Now that 2006 is here, it begs the question; will it be anything like the record-breaking season last year? For those who live in Florida along the coast, they are now asking themselves is Central Florida safe from large Category Hurricanes?

This indeed is a good question. Now remember that if you live in the center of the state that you will not get those huge storm surges and the winds might be knocked down considerably. But if you have a trailer home and you are at a high end Cat IV at landfall, even if you are inland with 30 mph less winds, you could still be in a world of hurt.

Then you may have to worry about flooding too, especially if another Hurricane had come thru previously and things are already at near breaking point with water levels. On worst-case scenario it could be problematic. I have heard people pitch the idea of building Center of State humungous Hurricane Evacuation Centers capable of 500,000 people for one week and whoever was in the way would go there.

This has potential if it were built right and would offer a better way to save lives and get people to evacuate like told. Such questions about the safety in the center of the giant sandbar state are quite troubling because it is not only possible but probable that Florida will be hit by such Hurricanes in 2006, as this has happened every year for the past five years and we can expect it again this year. So far the Center of Florida is still there isn't it? And the Shorelines although many completely battered are also still there for now. But these are completely serious issues aren't they? Consider this in 2006.
