When to release your press release - Part 1

Author: John Hopkins

In the first of a three part series I'll provide some great tips on the best time to submit your press release depending on which medium you're using.

The three categories we'll focus on are:

Daily Newspapers
Monthly Magazines
Radio/Television

The critical thing to remember is writers and editors work to deadlines.

They might love your story, but if you don't give them enough time to meet their deadlines. They'll have no choice but to leave your press release out.

Daily newspapers operate on a twenty four to forty eight hour turn around. So if you've got an important event taking place, don't leave it to the last minute to submit your press release.

Another simple tip.

Ring your daily newspaper and find out what feature articles they'll be working on in the future and when they'll be published.

This gives you a great opportunity to tie in your press release with the featured article.

If you're promoting an online event or webcast make sure you give reporters about three weeks notice. Three weeks leaves enough time to get coverage in internet newsletters and online calendars.

Tomorrow, we'll cover monthly magazines.
