City Council Election and Dirty Local Politics

Author: Lance Winslow

How can we get good people to run for office, people who really care and would do what ever it takes within their power to insure justice, fairness and maintain all that we have built. People who will make sure to that indeed the flows of our civilization are running at optimum and never be tempted by a bribe? How can we find those honest folks to run for office?

Well it is going to be harder than you think as politics is rotten to the core from the good ole boy network to the lobbyist bribes in Congress. Having run in three city elections, I can tell you of the incredible underhandedness, as they attempted to trash my good name, called me everything under the sun and even attempted to trump up legal issues. Why, well one of my political opponents was a Policeman, who I might add; "Shot himself in the foot during the LA Riots" and then sued the city for early retirement; real civic minded person indeed. I always have to wonder, who is watching those who are supposedly protecting us at the police level in our cities. And if politics are that greasy at the city level, well just imagine what it is like at the Federal Level?

What was interesting about all this is after I gave up politics, they implemented every single one of my ideas. Interesting these humans and their politics. But in the end you do not have to be the podium pusher to nudge mankind to the next step. Interesting isn't it. You see I wanted to run to help the community (well 140,000 city), I knew I was smarter and better than the others running. It was a volunteer position, as the pay was nothing more than expenses reimbursement. You see the politics did not want the best civic citizen they wanted a politician who was part of the system, one they could control.

The local politicians wanted to run to be in-charge, willing to do "anything to get there and stay there". I suppose it is easier to be a politician if you just do not care about anyone but yourself and your climb. This is why politics is for only the thick skinned or those who either care so much about the mission they sacrifice their selves or care so much about their selves they are willing to sacrifice the mission. And there is some more wisdom to think on for you.

All in all as bad as politics are, it all seems to work doesnt it; that is to say that at least we can say that as bad as things can get either way or what ever the individual politicians choose, we still live in the greatest nation on Earth, so it is hard to complain about much and only takes a little bit of world travel to see that. So consider all this in 2006.
