Brain Games: Teach Your Kids While They Have Fun

Author: Gail Leino

There is nothing wrong with kids having fun while they are learning. As a matter of fact, most kids retain information better when they are having fun doing it. So, why not teach kids through the use of brain games? There are a number of great games on the market that are just perfect for this.

Some brain games you can play with your kids are:

1. Sudoku - The newest craze in brain games. Each row, each column and each 3 X 3 square will contain the numbers 1 through 9. Each number will only appear once. These can be quite easy or extremely hard.

2. Chess - An oldie, but a goodie. Chess teaches strategy and forward thinking, while also staying on their toes if their opponent does something unexpected.

3. The Memory Game - You can play memory with a generic deck of cards or any one of the several commercially produced memory games. Young children turn over two cards, hoping to find a match. If they don't get a match, they have to turn the cards back over. They have to keep the number or item on the card in their memory for the next turn, in case they should turn over a match.

4. Word Scrambles - Take a spelling list and scramble up all the words. Have your child unscramble them and you will be reinforcing spelling skills.

5. Any Trivia Game - Trivial Pursuit is a popular, commercially available trivia game, as is Cranium. Although for older children and adults, many of the facts in the game will be retained by those individuals playing.

You can make up any brain games that you want to with your child. Make those hard to learn subjects more enjoyable by adding some fun to the facts. Even the simplest of games can be beneficial to those struggling with a particular subject area.
