Why Should A Pregnant Woman Quit Smoking

Author: Tony James
For a pregnant woman, smoking is extremely dangerous to her. The toxic and poisons will directly channel to your unborn child. If you are ever going to plan to have children and one of your family member is a smoker. It would be best to find out about certain facts on how smoking or second hand smoke can affect the baby.

Because the baby nutrients depend on the mother intake, smoking will have a direct effect on the baby. For starters, the baby will have a less resistant body and will also affect the baby growth. Studies have showed that mothers who smoke during their pregnant will have children which are shorter in height. A baby will need all the oxygen it can get when in the mother's womb. Smoking deprives the baby from getting the best supply of oxygen.

Studies have shown that if a mother is a smoker, the infant mortality rate is 50 percent higher than mothers who are non-smokers. Children born to smoking mothers can die of infant death syndrome, or crib death.

Another issue for smoking mother or parents is lack of moral responsibility. A mother will have no responsibility of the child's health if she does not even take care of her own. A child support from the mother is crucial but this is not possible when a mother lacks of this sense of responsibility. Children born to a smoking family would have to suffer the consequences of second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is actually more poisonous compared to a first hand smoker.

Thus, by deciding not to smoke anymore is as though you are rendering a totally new life for your children. Of course, quitting tobacco would be difficult but same goes for everybody who smokes. But so many people have been successful to stop smoking. There are many support centers which can help you.
