An Introduction To Video Surveillance Equipment

Author: Ross Bainbridge

Video surveillance equipment has been used to study workload among pilots and air-traffic controllers, evaluation of driver reactions to warning devices at railroad crossings, and studies of the behavior of sleep-deprived locomotive engineers. The equipment includes video cameras, digital video cameras, and CCTV video cameras. Video surveillance equipment has become more popular after the terrorist attacks in the United States of America.

Users of this equipment include government agencies, security agencies, companies and businesses, schools, and public and private transport vehicles. Video surveillance equipment can also be used where round the clock human intervention is not possible. The New York subway also uses video surveillance equipment for monitoring underground traffic.

There are many types of video surveillance equipment such as cameras, software, digital image cameras and so on. The effective use of digital video surveillance equipment can lessen the liability & workers' compensation premiums, fraudulent insurance claims, and may help in the deterrence and apprehension of insincere workers and customers. Contemporary technology also provides the ability to watch a business concern remotely from home or other locations.

There are many varieties of cameras and digital video recorders for various applications. Entrance and exit cameras, cash register and counter cameras, internal cameras, outdoor cameras and digital recorders are the basic apparatus of a digital video surveillance system. A standard four camera digital video recording system for a small retail or office type business can cost a person at least $4,500 plus installation. Medium, large and project level businesses will have to spend proportionately more to satisfy their individual security requirements.

The expenses incurred for buying video surveillance equipment is worth the effort and cost because these equipment not only reduce costs of security but also help in curbing crime and vandalism. Almost all the companies use video surveillance equipment for some purpose or the other and the sale of these products is definitely increasing because of their efficiency.
