Facts that You Should Know about Air Purifiers and Air Quality

Author: Daryl Plaza

Air purifiers and air quality and are becoming a priority to many these days. Top environmental agencies and medical associations and are finding that greater than ninety percent of top respiratory aliments are being caused by polluted air. And though most of us think that it is only outdoor air pollution - studies are finding that the indoor air pollutants are becoming more significant with some being found to be more than 100 times worse than what you would encounter in the outdoors. Since most of us spend so much of our time indoors, understanding air purifiers and air cleaners can greatly increase the quality of air in our homes and our health.

How do I clean my home's air?

Air purifiers are the best way to remove those harmful air particles that float in our homes air such as pet dander, dust, pollen and bacteria. A home air purifier will give you the benefit to breathe clean air in your home environment. If you watch the sunlight coming through the window you can see all the tiny particles floating in the air. Breathing in this type of air can cause health issues like allergies and asthma attacks. Indoor air quality tends to be low because our homes structure typically traps the air and hinder air flow. Having the proper airflow in your home is very important. In your research to find your air cleaner, you will find multiple types that you can choose from like ozone, ionic, ultra violet purifiers or electrostatic air purifiers. By using the proper indoor air purifier you can assure yourself that your homes air is safe and clean.

Your air purifier maintenance

Something that a lot of us don't take into consideration when investigating air purifiers is what the maintenance requirements are or what replacement filters cost. There is a large selection of replacement air filters on the market, but you don't have to be overwhelmed by this. By doing a little research and reading some air purifier reviews and consumer reports you will find the specific filter that fits your needs. The manufacturers usually have already a specific filter that they want you to use in their units. Along with these recommendations they will give you a maintenance schedule on how to clean the filter and how often you should replace the air filter. Keep in mind no air filter will work the way it should if it is dirty and clogged and creates no benefit to having an air purifier. By following a regular maintenance schedule your homes air quality will be a healthier environment for you and your family.

Choosing your air purifier

Researching is your first priority when looking for an air cleaner. First you should determine what kinds of contaminants you want to remove from your home. Do you have allergies to mold or dust or animal pollen, or maybe you need to remove or reduce second hand smoke. You may want to consider getting an air purifier that is made to work on several pollutants at the same time thus keeping your homes air can be as clean as possible. Then the upkeep of your air purifier should be taken into consideration. Your air purifying system might be expensive, so check your filter regularly to protect its life. Or you may consider installing an ionic air purifier or an UV air purifier as a pre filter before the main air purifier as to save on the main filter, as the filter can be an added expense if they are not properly maintained.
