Family and Friends
Family and Friends
Hailing from the musical mecca of Athens, Georgia and built on the idea that the sum is greater than the individual parts, Family And Friends has steadily gained a loyal following with their spirited live performances and “good music, good people” mantra since releasing their 2015 EP XOXO. Their new highly anticipated album Felix Culpa, produced by Chicago-turned-L.A. auteur Brad Wood and due out June 8th, is nothing less than an epic coming-of-age tale with a massive sound that amplifies their former indie-folk roots onto a technicolor, Cinemascope screen.

Whereas Family And Friends’ first EP focused heavily on love, and the second on nostalgia, Felix Culpa is caught somewhere between adolescence and adulthood and finds Family And Friends at a pivotal moment in their maturation both as artists and individuals. With a classic coming-of-age narrative, the album’s theme focuses on a precipice of life’s journey, as we begin the quest for existential meaning and come to terms with the fact that people, relationships, and seemingly universal truths are more complicated than we perhaps realize. Balancing scintillating textures with bright guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies, Family And Friends’ sharply observant lyrics are cloaked in the band’s contagiously upbeat instrumentation, leaving the listener with a sense of hope by album’s end.

Family And Friends’ collaborative concept extends well beyond the members of the band. With a live show that begs audiences to feel as much a part of the experience as the musicians onstage, their fiery performances have been turning casual viewers into full-on believers all over the southeast. The band’s infectious, dynamic anthems become even more intoxicating in a live setting, with epic builds that crash over the roar of two dueling drummers, who perform facing each other and feed off one another’s energy. A Family And Friends show is pure, unadulterated fun with a lightning bolt of enthusiasm and a familiarity that is immediately endearing and undeniably gratifying.

Family And Friends includes Mike MacDonald (guitar, vocals), Casey Harper (vocals), David “Tuna” Fortuna (bass), Ryan Houchens (drums, vocals), Alejandro Rios (drums), and JP McKenzie (electric guitar). The forthcoming album title, which loosely translates to “blessed mistake”, illustrates the notion that while we may continue to search for some semblance of meaning, the fact that we are here at all deserves to be celebrated, and Family And Friends intends to do just that.
Ivory Circle
Ivory Circle
Ivory Circle is an indie-alternative band from Denver, Colorado, started by singer-songwriter Connie Hong and producer/multi-instrumentalist Chris Beeble. They are joined by Rob Spradling on drums/ percussion.

A former middle school choir teacher in a suburb of Aurora, Colorado, Hong used to write songs during her lunch breaks and play them for her students. She would eventually realize her passion was in creating and performing and left the public teaching field behind. Beeble, a longtime friend, joined the project after several song-writing and recording sessions and a mutually found musical vision.

With formal musical training in multiple genres under both of their belts, Hong and Beeble released the acoustic EP, “Entropy” in 2013 to positive reviews, leading to a featured song on a promotional spot for Showtime Network's The Affair, a featured song on VH1’s Couples Therapy, a spot in The Denver Post’s Underground Music Showcase, as well as opening slots for acclaimed national acts such as Copeland, San Fermin, Son Lux, and Caroline Smith. Most recently, Ivory Circle made KTCL's Hometown For the Holidays top 11 in 2014, for their song "Faces and Colors."

Hong’s ability to translate personal experiences (like heartache, death, or exploration of faith) into relatable musical stories is accomplished with the help of Beeble in their full band arrangements. Spradling brings a unique technological element to Ivory Circle as a videographer and additional in-studio producer, and has designed and developed the light show programs for Ivory Circle’s live performances. Recognizing the relevance of maintaining a strong online and social media presence, Ivory Circle creates an intimate experience with their listeners around the world through their blog and social media outlets.

Ivory Circle creates a sound as unique as it is precise, electrifying and passionate, complete with lush strings, harmonic layers, and pulsing drumbeats, interwoven between the piano and vocal lines that give them their trademark sound. The combination of their intricate compositions juxtaposed with Hong’s vocal prowess make them comparable to notable musicians such as Florence+the Machine, Regina Spektor, and Kimbra. The first two EPs in their Triangle series, “Equilateral” and “Isosceles” are available on iTunes and Bandcamp. The third and final installement, “Scalene,” was released March of 2018.
