Why Sweets Make You Feel Good

Author: Kimberly Chang

It is no lie that chocolate can brighten your dull mood. Although many people think it is only psychological, scientists are discovering that sweets like chocolate can really impact your mood physically as well as mentally.

The whole concept of sweets making you feel good focuses around neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are responsible for the human emotions. Tryptophan is one of the chemicals the human brain needs to make serotonin. Chocolate contains this chemical and when you consume it your brain begins making more serotonin. When your levels of serotonin are increased, you will feel happy.

In addition to making you feel happy, tryptophan is also responsible for the human emotion of lust. It can be said that chocolate can make you feel lustful feelings and sensations as well. While some people might not think this is a valid claim, science shows it is quite possible. Of course, there are such small amounts of the chemical in chocolate that you may need to eat quite a bit to be able to feel as lustful as you might desire.

In any case, sweets like chocolate might be the thing you need to boost your mood when you are feeling down. You may not get the same effect as you would from an anti-depressant medication or some other treatment method, but you may feel pretty good after eating that delicious chocolate bar. So go ahead and indulge every now and then on those sweets that you love to eat. You will find that you might not need therapy after all, just a jumbo chocolate bar!
