Top 2 Myths of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Author: Ugur Akinci

SEO is just another fancy name for ranking up high on Google and other search engine results.

Most business owners do not want to admit that "staying up on top" of the Google search results is a tough Darwinian process and requires attention to content, regular maintenance, and the kind of investment most business owners make regularly in yellow pages, print advertisement, and gift items.

So with my apologies in advance, I'd like to pop the balloon of the following two worst SEO myths circulating out there:

MYTH 1) There is a secret trick or a Meta Tag that an engineer can insert into the code of a web site that would glue your business to the top of Google search results.

FACT 1) Nope. There is none. If there were, the engineer who found it would be a multi billionaire and we would already know her name.

MYTH 2) Once a web site makes it to the first page of search results, it's supposed to stay there forever.

FACT 2) It takes a constant effort (refreshing the content on a daily basis, establishing fresh links, submitting it periodically to search engines, setting up autoresponders for opt-in list incentives, Internet press releases, maintaining ezine article marketing, etc.) to preserve the search engine rating of an average web site.

Staying high up on Google search results is a process and full-time project that deserves its own planning, budget and staff.
