Shiatsu Schools

Author: C. Bailey-Lloyd

For the student interested in a unique field of study, Shiatsu schools offer a variety of ways to advance your skills, education and training in the natural healing art of Shiatsu. Whether individuals wish to become a shiatsu practitioner; or are seeking a new way to enhance their healthcare profession, or for people who just want to learn a new healing method for themselves, Shiatsu schools provide proficient bodywork training and education to meet individual needs and goals.

Generally, Shiatsu school curriculums include but are not limited to Shiatsu theory, history, technique and philosophy; anatomy; physiology; pathology; Eastern medical theory; nutrition and code of ethics.

Students who enroll in Shiatsu schools can expect to learn all about this noninvasive, drugless therapy; and how to use the hands as healing tools. Instruction includes how to restore balance in body systems by developing healing sensitivity in the hands (generally, the palms, fingers, thumbs, forearms and knees may be utilized) to stimulate energy flow and balance to promote healing and overall wellbeing.

Shiatsu school training programs vary in course duration and cost; subsequently, prospective students should check whether or not schools offer weekend or evening schedules.
